contest thingy
GUD magazine is launching issue #3. I mention this because they are having a contest, and it is a Good Thing Indeed to support venues that print short SF, because it's mostly a thankless job.

I'm also posting because this is a magazine I've considered subbing stories to but haven't yet because I don't feel like I have a good sense of what they print, so if I win their contest I get a pdf issue and then I can know if my stuff is worth bothering them with. (-:

So, ah, go check them out.

(Oh, and can I express my utter hatred for websites that, when you register and provide a password yourself, email you that password [that you already know] back? NOT good security practice there.)

Passwords--I continue to waffle on that. It's horrible security, but people really seem to like it. So continue to spread the noise :)

I wonder if anyone would notice if I just ... removed it.

Thanks :)

I can't help it, I'm in IT -- paranoia is part of the job. (-:

Yeah, web development is me. I appreciate the nudge :) For paying clients I've taken to one-way encrypting passwords and doing my best to "leave no trace".

Some day *cough* GUD might be able to afford a dedicated IP on my server and an SSL cert...

OMG yes I hate that!

One recent site first forced me to choose a more-secure password (containing both letters and numbers or some such thing) and then mailed it back to me. I'm like, I'm confused; do we care about the security of these passwords or not?
